Excellent stuff Ben. All who read that now know a bit more of what you and the 2s are all about. It's great that there's such an interest in the continued development of the 2s and I hope that whatever the outcome all those interested parties can pull together afterwardst to keep the momentum going. Of course you want that to be you so make sure none of your supporters waste their vote. Who knew an election could be this exciting!!

Dug,
3 seperate 1st team players have told me thats what was said. It was at a home fixture recently.

The only nominations board was the one concerning 1s captaincy.

I dont think ive been too out of line so far but when you know things are happening behind your back you do get a bit edgy, well i do especially.

As 2s captain i think ive been pretty productive over the last 2 seasons. Several 1s players were promoted from the 2s and i have brought pride back into the 2s which is no longer a complete doss about. Yes its not as serious as 1s rugby but the guys do generally care about playing for their shirt now. People have improved under my guidence, yes we all know im a hot head but all i want is the best from everyone, and developed well. Last season we finnished 2nd in the league and this season we should finnish no lower than 3rd since we only lost 5 league games all season ( 2 of these to 1st teams ). We were previously only playing friendlys before i took over i think. I have also asked for the 2s to step up at least 2 leagues as i believe we can compete at a higher level. Alfonso Mattei has scored 13 trys in total this season. We have found a knack of turning close games around since we turned Bed Ath over. We have got a bit of competition for places which should only increase with the colts coming through. We have the right mixture of old and young to help develope these players. We have encouraged players to come back to the club. As ive said we have been a successful squad and one that can progress even more with the extra help thats required from people within the club. 1s rugby is top priority for any club but that doesnt mean people should look down upon 2s rugby as this is key to keeping the 1s where they should be by keeping players fit and ready to fight for positions and also for developing new/young players. I thik it actually opened a few eyes this season but needs a little bit more respect. It isnt all one way traffic, i know that the amount of 2s training is a massive let down. I did try to rectify this with an additional training session. This was a mini success but we do really need everyone to train together. Attitudes need to be changed and barriers broken all round but i think it has started a bit. Ben Morton is testament to this.

I said previously before you make your decision on voting please go talk to one of the regular 2s players. They will tell you what they would like and this should really be what counts.

By the way thanks Dug for thinking ive done a good job. I dont do it for praise of any sort, as no one ever should, but for the lads and club. It is nice to know my work doesnt go un noticed though by people

Ben, I agree with Ian that this is something that is perhaps best discussed in person with either him or a commitee member. For the record though, I've sat in the 1s changing room all season and never heard anyone being told who to vote for for 2nd team captain. I don't know where you got your "information" from but it's better to test it first rather than react and jump to conclusions.

Further, the captains nomination form has been on the pin board for some time. I know this because I was having a laugh with Buckley's missus about it because he has been nominated when I think she would rather have her fella back than play second fiddle to Rushden for another season. You don't have to be at the club to have your name put on the sheet. It's your nominator or secondor that put your name on the board and by all accounts there are many that are willing to do that, so if you know that they are going to the club anytime soon ask them to do the necessary.

I see no reason why you shouldn't campaign using this forum. It's true that a lot of people who get to vote maybe don't know who you are. But stick to positives, tell people what you have done that has been a success rather than slander the 1s and cause disharmony. Personally I think you've done a great job of pulling together a bunch of guys that want to play for the 2s week in and week out. Be proud of that and continue the good work if elected. Remember if you are elected you have to work closely with the guys that you are accusing of wrongdoing. It won't do the 2s any good to sour that relationship.

Ian,
When you stand in the 1s changing room telling them you expect them to vote Seady it doesnt really sound like this will be a fair situation. Im sorry but this just about stupid club politics and not rugby because if it was about rugby then we wouldnt even need a vote. Go and ask those guys what they want, there are several more aswel. I ,with the help of a few key others, have worked really hard to sort a 2nd team out. Remember just over 2 seasons ago we were really struggling, look at us now. We are building but this could really put a spanner in the works and ruin the spirit that the 2s now have.
I think people need to know what the situation is especially since the season is over. This is a forum that i can use to reach many different people. I dont have the luxuary of being a Sunday morning coach or have family within the club to help me get cheap votes so at least on this forum i can put a few things out there to the voters ,who more than likeley have nothing to do with the 2s affairs, to think about. If it isnt broke, then dont fix it springs to mind.

Ben,

Good captains speech!

The club is open tomorrow as it's mini and junior presentation day, so I am sure the list will go up tomorrow.

By the way, there will be three names that I know of that are wanting to stand for the Captain of the 2nd team .

I as 1st team manager will be really happy to be the puppet master for who ever gets role!!

Any way lets not spoil the outstanding season we have had on and off the field by being negative about the club in public.

When will the board be put up for captains/club officials? I was told it was going to be last saturday, then that was changed last saturday to today but the club wasnt open when i went up. I know there has been a campaign behind my back to get Seady the 2s captaincy but to keep changing things around to suit you guys is taking the p***.
Secondly just for all the people who may have a vote to cast over the 2s captaincy, you go ask the people who mater the most regarding it, the guys who regulary play/help with 2s rugby who they want as captain instead of just voting for the puppet of the 1s choosing. Go ask Rob Leech, Ben Morton, John Mead, Christian Stevens, Andy Waters, Andy Burton, Stuart Tobin, Daz Hall, Adam Fuller, Alfonso Mattei, Tony Hughes etc. You will get the same answer from all of them and its their voices that should be heard on this matter.

If last night was anything to go by Club Dinner is going to be a hell of a night.

Having said that I think Booney and Phil will struggle to get green cards for it!!!

Well where did the season go?? It appeared to go very slow until christmas then it flew by.

It has been a succesful season throughout the club, obviously the 1st XV gaining promotion is the high spot and this success has filtered down into the the mini's and juniors. The club is in pretty good shape on some weekends we have fielded a 4th Senior XV and have succesfully run a colts side.

I would like to thank every player who has worn the Rushden shirt from the youngest mini to the oldest senior you have my respect.

My biggest thanks go to all the wonderful volunteers whose tireless work help keep this amazing club going. There is really too many to mention but each of you have my gratitude.

We have two big weekends in the presentation day and seniors dinner and I hope to see as many as possible to celebrate our club.

Many Thanks

Jeff Yeates
Chairman
