Rushden and Higham fell at the final hurdle as Oadby won in this Midlands 4 East (South) winner takes all showdown. Rushden started the day two points ahead but with Oadby having a far superior points difference Rushden had to avoid defeat to maintain top spot. This certainly spurred them on in the opening exchanges as Rushden went for the jugular early. A number of kicks kept Oadby pinned back and Rushden almost went into an early lead when a maul from a 5 metre lineout was stopped just short. Eventually all Rushden were awarded for their pressure was 3 points from the trusty boot of Sharp.

Rushden and Higham took on local rivals Wellngborough in a Saxby Cup match following the former having their league fixture cancelled due to Stoneygate pulling out of the tie. Rushden and Higham took on Oadby Wyggstonians in a Midlands 4 East (South) top of the table clash. With both sides going into the tie with 100% records it was always going to be a tight affair. Oadby started the stronger putting Rushden under a lot of pressure from the off. Oadby kept Rushden penned back with some excellent kicking out of hand but fortunately Rushden’s lineout was in top form and continually stole opposition ball. Having weathered the early storm Rushden managed to string some good phases of play together but turnovers were proving to be the order of the day. With Thorney having pulled out of their league game with Rushden and Higham and Vauxhall Motors doing likewise with Northampton Mens Own the two disaffected sides faced off in a friendly. This posed an interesting test for Rushden and Higham, unbeaten in the league this season and likely, therefore, to be joining Mens Own in the league above next year. Rushden and Higham's winning ways continued with a win to progress to remain undefeated in the league. In only their second league of 2010 Rushden travelled to Stoneygate knowing they would be in for a stern test as recent form suggested that Stoneygate were in some fine form of their own sitting in the top 3 of the table.
